Fix Common VPN Issues
If your VPN isn’t working properly, don’t panic. Most issues are solved by switching servers, adjusting a phone/OS setting, or using safer DNS settings. This guide walks you through the most common fixes—step by step.
Issue 1: VPN won’t connect
This usually happens because of one of these reasons:
- Temporary network instability
- The server is overloaded or under maintenance
- The OS is killing the app in the background
Fix: choose another server in the same country, force-close the VPN app, and reconnect.
Issue 2: Slow speed or unstable performance
Slow speed isn’t always caused by the VPN. If your ISP is congested or you’re running heavy downloads, your ping and speed will drop.
- Select a closer location (lower distance usually = lower latency)
- Pause parallel downloads / updates
- Restart your modem/router once
Issue 3: Frequent disconnects
On mobile devices, Battery Saver and aggressive background limits can cause random disconnects. Enabling Always-On (where available) and removing battery optimization for the VPN app often fixes it.
Issue 4: DNS or WebRTC leak
If a website or exchange can detect your real country, a leak may be happening. Enable “Secure DNS” / “Private DNS” in your VPN app (if available), and disable WebRTC leaks in your browser.
Issue 5: Some websites don’t load
Some sites block certain IP ranges. If one server fails, don’t keep changing countries— try a different server in the same country first.
